Course Information

Welcome to the course ITKA2004 Databases and Data Management!

The course covers databases, data management, and database management systems from the perspective of data models.

In this course, you will learn

  • key concepts and principles related to databases (database, CRUD, ACID, CAP),
  • how to practically design, implement, use, analyze, and optimize relational databases (ER diagrams, relations, SQL),
  • how data is managed in information systems (data warehousing, distribution).

Completion and Schedule

The course is implemented as an online course. Passing the course requires that

  • you complete every lecture's revision test,
  • you get a passing grade from every section's mini-exam,
  • you submit the project work by 15.3.2026,
  • you participate in the course exam.

The course is divided into five content areas, containing text materials, examples, and exercises. The workload of the course is 133 hours.

The course is graded on a scale of 1-5. The course grade is determined based on section mini-exams (20%), project work (30%), and the course exam (50%).

Detailed schedules and criteria are presented in Section 1. The project work and final exam can be found in Section 7.

It is possible to complete the course remotely. Lectures are recorded, and the exam can be taken as an online exam.
