Guidance 1

Agora microclasses: Ag B212.2 (Mountains), Ag B213.1 (Lakes), ((Sovjet), Ag B212.1 (Finland) reserved if space runs out Ag B211.1).

Please note that if there are very few participants, the event may not take place. Each time slot has a number like +0, +1, +2. This means the number of instructors who will show up. Check that this is at least +1 before you go. You can secure the time by attracting more students to it.

From this calendar, select in-person time/times from the guided lessons in Agora's micro classes. You may not select the same times from both remote and in-person guidance.

In-person and Zoom/Jitsi-room

Within this section, do not check a box or change anything unless you are genuinely present in the Zoom or in the classroom

First, go to the course Zoom (password ohj2). If you don't get a room in Jitsi or you arrive late, message the instructors in the Zoom!

    The field must be of the form : https://jyufi.zoom.us/..., no Join... stories. The password must not be present or must be hidden in the URL (see instructions). If you want to share with a friend, put the same zoom address. The zoom address overrides the group name and the draw. Still put the group name, so the instructors can see better who is in the same group. So putting a zoom link is the same as ticking I want to work alone, unless a friend puts the same link.

The objectives of this 1st computer guidance are to

  1. To get familiar with the course tools
  2. To understand how to do demos and start doing demos
  3. To write, compile and run the first C# program and a graphical C# program

Computer guidance tasks

  1. Start by making your first C# programs Hello world, and Snowman until you have added gravity and experimented with different gravities.
  2. Modify the VPython program below to draw a three-dimensional snowman with a red, green and blue sphere. Note that you can rotate the image with the right mouse button.
# vpython2
ball=sphere(pos=vector(4,7,3),radius=2,color=color.green)
redbox=box(pos=vector(4,2,3),size=vector(8,4,6),color=color.red)

  1. Do Demo 1 Tasks 1, 3, 5 and 6 (do not start with Ville or Tauno).
  2. Practice editing TIM pages. You can start on the sandbox page. For instructions on how to use TIM, see here

Things to consider

  • Character size matters! Name categories and files as they should be, i.e. capitalise the first letters of initials and capitalise the first letters of words (e.g. HelloWorld.cs)
  • Remember the efficient use of the command line
  • You can use the Tab key to complete file and folder names by just pressing the Tab key (repeatedly if necessary)
  • or by first typing one or two letters at the beginning of the file/folder name you want and then pressing the Tab key (repeatedly if necessary)
  • If the scandic letters (i.e. the characters with umlauts) are printed incorrectly in the command prompt, don't worry about it at this point. Just type the scripts "normally" in the editor you are using.
