Course completion
Work tasks
Accepted tasks have usually been software design and programming, software installation and maintenance, or some other IT related tasks. Ordinary office work (such as text editing, spreadsheet computing, or updating web pages) is not enough.
Duration of the work and study credits
The amount of credits depends on the duration of the work. Only full working days (in full-time work) or hours worked (in part-time work) are counted, not weekends or other periods off work.
For 5 credits, full-time work requires 33 working days, and part-time work requires 250 working hours.
Reporting
Report
After the work student should write a report. It is not so important to say what you have done, but instead to explain what you have learned. Suggested length of the report is two pages, and at least the following things should be mentioned:
Student's name and contact information.
Name of the employer, and the starting and ending dates of the employment. If the employment has been part-time work, then also an account of weekly working time or total number of working hours.
Short, general description of the work tasks. This is not the main subject of the report, so do not write too detailed description. Also, do not write any company secrets in the report.
Personal assessment on the compatibility of studies and work if the work was carried out during the studies. Which studies were useful during the work tasks? Was the work beneficial in terms of future studies? Are there any essential aspects missing from the field-specific studies?
Personal assessment on learning. What skills and knowledge did you have before the job? What have you learned during the work? What are your strengths? What areas do you need to develop? How have your language, communication or teamwork skills evolved? How your working habits and methods have changed? Will what you have learned at work influence your future study habits? This is the most important part of the report.
Short assessment also on the employer. How well did the job correspond to a position in the field?
In addition, a copy of the employment certificate signed by the employer is attached to the report. If the work has been part-time, also submit a certificate of hours provided by the employer.
