Report down below the times you spent on the assignments on this page. Doing the weekly assignments (Demo) is reported in a different place and are to be done only after finishing assignments on this page. There is some overlap with these assignments and the weekly assignments (Demo).

Write down the weekday (the first two letters of the Finnish words, see below) and the time of the group you attended. Give the time in two hour blocks (see examples below). If you attended multiple groups, separate the times using a comma. You can also write koti (home), if you did the assignments outside of the supervised groups.

Goals for this session:

  1. Get acquainted with the tools of this course
  2. Understand, how to do weekly assignments and begin working on them
  3. Write, compile and run your first C# program and the first graphic C# program

Pääteohjaus assignments

  1. Start by doing the first two C# programs Hello world and Lumiukko (Snowman) until you have added gravity and tried out different gravity values.
  2. Edit the VPython program below so that it draws a three dimensional snowman with a red, blue and green ball. Note that you can rotate the image by holding down the right mouse button.

  1. Complete tasks 1, 3, 5 and 6 from Demo 1 (Do not begin with Ville or Tauno tasks)
  2. Practise editing TIM pages. You may begin with the sandbox page. TIM manual
  3. If time permits, open Alice and complete task B1.

Worth noting

  • Begin by executing Yhdistä-N.cmd from the desktop (if using a school computer). Otherwise some command promt commands may not work (eg. npp, csm and csk)
  • Pay attention to casing in your code. File and class names should begin with an uppercase letter as well as the first letter of each new word in a name (eg. HelloWorld.cs)
  • Command prompt tips
    • Tab can be used to autofill file and folder names by (repeadingly) pressing the Tab key
    • or by writing the first few letters of the file (or folder) name and then pressing the Tab key
  • ConTEXT users: opt out of back-up file notiications: Options => Environment Options => Backup file on save: uncheck
  • If Scandinavian characters are not printing correctly on the command prompt, ignore it. Keep writing characters as usual in your text editor.
